IN MEMORIAM – Mark R. Stoiber

We were deeply saddened by the sudden and unexpected passing of our President, Mark Stoiber, on July 2. Mark was 47 years old and is survived by his wife, Margaret, mother, Pat, three children, and brothers, nephews and nieces. His brother, Todd, is also a member of our staff.

Mark’s passing is a great loss for the Milwaukee healthcare community. He had dedicated 20 years of his life to helping people with sleep disorders and making the community aware of the need to diagnose and treat these ailments.

Mark and his business partner, Ron Baake, made the Sleep Wellness Institute a reality in 1994. Quality of service and ensuring that "We always do the right thing" became the hallmark of the Institute. Under their guidance, it has become the largest independent sleep disorders center in Wisconsin.

Mark brought tremendous creativity to his work. A non-stop idea "machine," Mark was always thinking of new and better ways to serve. That is why he co-founded the non-profit Reggie White Sleep Disorders Research & Education Foundation, and was the basis of his decision to create the three CPAP2GO retail stores that now service patients in and around the Milwaukee area.

A popular and in-demand public speaker, Mark had a knack for finding the best way to communicate about sleep disorders. His description of sleep apnea that involved using a balloon, a thick milkshake, and a toy shark made a complex disorder easily understandable to laymen and students.

With his boyish smile and outgoing nature, Mark was a friend to all of us who had the honor to work with him all these years. His life ended all too soon, but his legacy of caring for others will continue unabated.
